7th grade bobcats secure the win! #BobcatNation
We are excited to announce that we have increased student safety on our buses by implementing a new card scanning system! Starting this week, students are learning to scan their cafeteria/transportation cards when they get on and off the buses. This system gives us the ability to know that each student is safely on the correct bus and that they get off at the correct location. Please encourage your student(s) to keep up with their cards. More information will be coming soon. Stay tuned!
Good work ladies! Keep your head up, there is always another game around the corner. #BobcatNation

No one wants to take semester tests, right?! What a great feeling it would be to achieve the grades, have great attendance and do just that. Here is what the handbook says:
EXAM EXEMPTION MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL
● The test exemption will be for students in grades 6-12 who maintain an 80%
each 9 weeks and no more than 5 absences. In addition, those students with at
least a 70% each 9 weeks and perfect attendance will also be exempt. The only
exception to absences will be school activity.
● An exempt student may leave campus for the remainder of the day once the
testing period is complete and by following the regular checkout procedures.
● It will be the responsibility of the teacher to keep an accurate record of
absences.
● An exempt student who feels the exam will raise his/her grade may do so, or
may use the time to study for another test.
27
● It will be the responsibility of the teachers to provide the principal with a list of
all exempt students who have met all the qualifications.
● A student who has been assigned ISS/Corporal Punishment or who has been
suspended loses all possibility for exemption for the semester.

Late breaking news! Junior high volleyball beats Thaden 25-13, 25-16. Great work ladies! #BobcatNation
Thank you students, parents, and staff for a great first week back at school! Let's keep this vibe going and make it a great year! #BobcatNation
Squeee!!! We are so ready to see your faces tomorrow morning! Don't forget that students may begin being dropped off at 7:25 am. Students may not leave campus once dropped off, even if that trip to Casey's is pretty tempting. Once on campus, stay on campus. First bell rings at 8:20 on Mondays, 7:45 Tuesday-Friday. #BobcatNation
Our #1 priority is keeping our students safe. You can help us by following traffic laws regarding school busses. If the stop sign is out, you stop no matter where the bus is located. #BobcatNation
We are all attached to our phones and understand how hard it is to be apart from them, but they are a big distraction during the school day. It is district policy that student cell phones be turned off and put away in a student's backpack. There are exceptions made for those with a medical need.
Should you need to communicate a message to your student you may call the office at 870-480-4633 and the message will be delivered to their classroom. We really appreciate your help by not trying to communicate with your student via cell phone during the school day.
The student handbook will be linked in the comments, but here is the passage from page 61 of the handbook regarding phones.
TELEPHONE
A telephone is available in the office for student use before and after school and
during lunch. Cell phones are highly discouraged and are not to be seen or heard
during class time except as directed by the classroom teacher for educational purposes. Cell phones are to be turned off and placed out-of-sight during school hours
(7:25am-3:15pm). See also Policy 4.18 – Student Discipline for additional information
regarding cell phones.

Student agendas are usually passed out during open house and orientation, but this year we will be distributing them at school. The timing and any associated cost will be communicated as soon as possible. #BobcatNation
Middle school is the perfect time to start working on skills our students will use their entire lives, like time management. Let's talk about tardies. Before we address the handbook we want to assure you of two things: 1) we will be very lax on tardies the first few weeks of school as 1/3 of our campus are new to our building, several classrooms have moved around, and we are all trying to get used to our surroundings and how to get from point A to point B. 2) If a student needs to use the restroom but there is not enough time between classes due to travel time from class to class they should go to their class, put their things down, and ask the teacher if they can go to the restroom.
Of course there will be exceptions from time-to-time. If your student is struggling getting to class on time please have them speak with their teachers. We are all willing to come up with a plan to address these situations.
Page 61 of the student handbook addresses tardies. The handbook will be linked below., but here is that excerpt.
TARDINESS AND CHANGING CLASSES
Four (4) minutes are allowed between classes. At the end of this time, students are
expected to be in the classroom. Three tardies in a class period will result in lunch
detention, and five tardies in a class will result in Saturday School. If the problem
persists, juvenile authorities will be notified.

Picking out what to wear to school can be so fun! Here are some common issues BMS has had that could result in a trip to the nurse for new clothes. Please remember we are a Bright Futures school. If you need clothing just ask a teacher, counselor, nurse, or any other staff member. The full student handbook is linked in the comments and the dress code is addressed on page 92. #BobcatNation
This weekend would be a great time to figure out where you will be dropping off and picking up your student to avoid that stress come Monday! Your options for dropping off and picking up car riders are to enter Campbell Street via Freeman Avenue, exiting on College Avenue OR the circle drive on Freeman Avenue. Please leave Ferguson Street for buses and do not drop students off before 7:25 am. If you have any transportation changes please call the office by 2:30 pm so that information can be communicated to your student. When we work together we can ensure our students get to and from school safely! #BobcatNation
It is time to set your alarms and get back on schedule! Here is the 2024-2025 BMS bell schedule. #BobcatNation
